The Challenges Stipulated by the Massification of Higher Learning Institute in Tanzania

  • Lectures holding a large number of students and due to this, they spend much of their time marking scripts and carrying out regular activities.
  • The other challenge education policy formulators face is a creation of higher education system that contain mass access with quality.
  • Moreover the ratio between the number of lecturers, physical facilities such as lecture halls, library, and other learning and teaching facilities against the number of students is imbalanced. This means that there are few lecturers, insufficient lecture halls and other facilities to satisfy the massive number of students.
  • Serious budget deficits as a result of reduced financial allocations from the government than their calculated expenditure.
  • Students’ quality of life is also a big issue as there is an increase in number of students that result to overwhelming budget to the government. This means that there is a large number of students who are enrolled each year and they are non-loan beneficiaries.
