Why media advocacy?

Media advocacy is the strategic use of news making through TV, radio and newspapers to promote public debate, and generate community support for changes in community norms and policies. Advocating for the goals of safe, healthy and prosperous communities, identifying barriers to strategic policy implementation, and sharing current research through news making all help policy makers and the general public to more fully engage in creating systemic changes that improve the world we live in.
It is my call to professionals and expert of different fields to take into account this viable and fruitful act of advocating to the media. The society we live in is thirsting in information and there is no body to feed this society with transformative ideas that may change the current image of the society. therefore media advocacy is vitally important in the following aspects;
• getting on the political agenda;
• make your issue visible and credible in policy debate;
• inform the public about your issue and proposed solution;
• recruit allies (associates);
• change public attitudes and behavior;
• influence decision makers and opinion leaders;
• shape policies, programs and the conduct of public and private agencies;
• raise money for your cause.
